Blaise presented his research, “Raman Spectroscopic Investigations of Weathering and Alteration Processes on the Surfaces of the Moon and Mars,” on September 18, 2026. He is advised by Kurt Retherford.

His research uses Raman spectroscopy to investigate how weathering and alteration processes affect planetary surfaces and the spectral signatures used to study them. His work includes laboratory studies of space-weathering effects on lunar materials as well as analysis of observations collected by the SHERLOC instrument aboard NASA’s Perseverance rover in Jezero Crater on Mars.

Together, these investigations are helping improve our understanding of how geological processes are recorded on the surfaces of the Moon and Mars and how Raman spectroscopy can be used to study the history of planetary bodies.
